I picked up a copy of Mary Jo Sharp’s Why I still Believe right at the perfect time. I was smack dab in the middle of my deconstruction after experiencing church abuse, and had my faith under the microscope. I heard about it from her daughter, who was my child’s band director at the time. I hadn’t heard of Mary Jo before but read the synopsis and thought it sounded exactly like what I needed. I couldn’t put this book down! (Or, whatever the audio book equalivent is). I ugly-cried my way through the first chapter when she described her own experience with people in church leadership. The rest of the book goes on to discuss why she still holds on to Jesus even though his followers are often less-than Christlike. It is validating to hear these topics talked about from respected Evangelical leaders. The audible recording is easy to listen to. I highly recommend!
